Dents and dings happen. Whether it’s your fault, or another person’s fault, it is inevitable to have to deal with these small – yet annoying – incidents of damage to your vehicle. While 618 Dent Guy makes repairing dents easy and affordable with paintless dent repair, there are some things you can do to reduce the chance of getting them in the first place!

Be Vigilant in Parking Lots

Parking lots are an extremely hazardous place for even the most seasoned driver. With people, carts, and cars milling about in a tight space, accidents are bound to happen. In fact, approximately one in five accidents occur in a parking lot! And that doesn’t even account for dents caused by runaway shopping carts.

It is important to move slowly through parking lots in your vehicle, and if possible, to park as far away as you can manage to avoid others parking next to you. Similarly, try to avoid parking near the areas where customers put carts away, as there’s a higher chance of an errant cart hitting your car.

Bollards, or vertical cement barriers, are extremely common in multi-floor parking lots, and backing into those can cause a large dent! If you’ve got a backup camera, be sure to use it – if not, pay very close attention when in reverse and utilize your side windows!

Take Cover in Extreme Weather

If you are able, placing your car under cover during an extreme weather incident is the best way to prevent weather-related dents from happening. Even if you don’t have a garage or carport, investing in an exterior weatherproof car cover could make a lot of difference. Damage can occur from flying debris, falling limbs, drifting, etc – all of which can have varying levels of severity.

While paintless dent removal is extremely effective for removing dents caused by hail damage, it is a much more laborious process than repairing a single dent. Hail damage can literally pepper the entire surface of your car, so while you always have the option of utilizing PDR to restore your car back to factory finish, you should do all you can to shelter your vehicle in the event of a hailstorm.

Take Care Of Your Bumper!

Lots of dents and dings occur on the bumper of your vehicle (which is why the bumper originated in the first place!) – however, it’s important for you to be extra vigilant when driving and parking to avoid bumping into things.

This means taking turns slowly and cautiously to avoid turning too sharp and hitting the curb. Similarly, be wary of parking lots with the barriers at the top – if you pull up too much, you could cause damage to your front bumper!

Give Space to Large Trucks on Highway

Debris can easily get kicked up by large trucks on the highway, which can hit your car and cause a dent. A lot of the time this will cause a crack in the windshield (as that is the largest part exposed to a vehicle in front of you), but can oftentimes make contact with other areas of the car as well.

Larger trucks like concrete haulers, 18-wheelers, or any truck hauling debris is a potential hazard if you are directly behind them. It is wise to either give a wide berth, or to switch lanes until they are no longer nearby your vehicle.
